This year's Christmas is the first one I will be spending without my family-- away from home. It would be a brand new experience celebrating the holiday season on my own but I know I can manage. Bing Crosby's I'll be Home for Christmas fits me well; so, I decided to do a ukulele cover.
I don't want my ukuleles to compete, but I must admit, Penny sounds way better than Cece. Sorry Cece. Don't worry I still love you. *wink*
I became busy with some stuff lately and I haven't been spending much time playing the ukulele. I have recorded my cover of Circa Survive's Everyway for a while now but didn't post it here yet so I thought this should be the time. And I also did a quick cover of Paramore's Moving On. It's barely 2 minutes so it didn't take me so long to finish. If any of these is one of your favorite songs, I hope I didn't destroy it for you. Teehee. Just when I thought it would be ages before I can own a quality ukulele, here comes a wonderful surprise from L. One night when I was about to travel to a neighboring island, L gave me a beautiful ukulele out of the blue. You guessed it, I shed tears. Who wouldn't? But of course I was crying out of happiness. The act itself and the ukulele melted my heart... oh, the ukulele. I named her Penny-- after Penny from The Big Bang Theory and from The Beatles' Penny Lane which is one of my favorite Beatles song (this name popped out of my head while I was lying on the boat's bunk bed). I'm challenged to get better at playing this little instrument. It'd be a shame to have a good ukulele and not be good at using it. I'm soooo grateful for this awesome present! *smiling from ear to ear with sparkling eyes*

Way back in high school, I tried to learn the guitar but I had no luck. I didn't have the perseverance to memorize all those chords and tabs. Also my fingers were too stiff to shift from one chord to another, taking me about 3 seconds to transfer. I got discouraged right away.
With the ukulele, it's a different story. I started strumming the four-string wonder last year after I got a hold of my friend's ukulele (Thanks, Zapie!). One thing that attracted me to this little instrument, other than its cutesy size, is its sound. There's a cheerful vibe to it-- often reminding me of a fun laid-back island life.
I have convinced L to buy one just for practice and I've been having so much fun playing it. Trying my best to strum a song or two everyday; however, I still have a lot of chords to master. Forgive my slothfulness but I always choose to play the easy songs. Haha. Anyway, here are a few cover attempts (I hope I'm not making a fool of myself). ;]
