Young Legs: Anthony Green's Upcoming Third Record

Grasping more of Anthony Green's musical creativity through his solo career is nothing short of awe-inspiring. His poetic lyrics, laudable rhythms and melodies are sure fire to auditory bliss. The good news is he is about to release his third album, Young Legs, on November 12, 2013. Good Old War works with him as his backing band for this record which is a great heads up as these guys also played in his previous album Beautiful Things as well as with Circa Survive. I know I'll be swept away by the time I get to hear everything in Young Legs-- Anthony never fails to impress. Come on, the guy is way too awesome in making music. Anyone who wants to contest that? I don't know about you but he's a prodigy to me.

Philip Barlow

Anticipation

The picture above looks like a blurry photograph-- the one taking the photo might have not set it on focus before clicking. But if you look closely, it's actually a painting.

Philip Barlow paints lanscapes in a different perspective. His artworks seem to be hazy photographs with a lot of bokeh going on. The art he creates are usual scenarios but depicted atypically which shapes views that mixes reality and dream. However, he is not aiming for surrealism; he wants them to be as familiar as possible.

He celebrates the beauty of light in his pieces-- he discussed his fascination of his favorite subject in his website's bio:

"The figures in the landscape serve as carriers and reflectors of the light that falls upon them. Bathed in the luminosity, it is my hope that they would become more beautiful. To me, light is the ultimate subject because it embodies the pinnacle of all reality."

Grey Lace Tights

I love wearing tights. They spice up my attire and allows me to wear short skirts or dresses without having to worry about showing too much skin (except for the net and lace tights).

When I eyed this tights at Accessorize, at first I was reluctant of it being lacey but at the same time I was attracted of its vintage appeal-- being in love with vintagey stuff I couldn't resist. It costs PhP 600 at regular price; good thing they were on sale having 70% discount so I only bought it at PhP 180. This beautiful pair of tights is absolutely a good find.

Yuna

I came across one of Yuna's music videos about a year ago while watching one by Zee Avi. Youtube has this thing of displaying similar artists which was an advantage to me; if not for that, I wouldn't have known up to now about this exceptional musician. I was curious especially because of the headscarf she wore-- it kind of reminded me of Erykah Baduh but I was actually clueless as to what her music would sound like. I loaded the video and as soon as I heard her voice I knew I was gonna love the rest of her songs.

Yuna is a Malaysian singer and songwriter. At 14, she began writing her own songs. Myspace was a key element in the discovery of her potential as an international musician; she publicized her tracks on the site back in 2006. With three international releases (Decorate EP, Yuna, Sixth Street EP) up her sleeve it won't be long until her next step to success in the music industry. Her next album Nocturnal is on the works and will be ready for our appreciation on the 29th of October this year. I'm excited as to what beautiful melodies and rhythms she cooked up.

Wild Rice

I noticed this little stall at a new establishment in my city. From afar I can tell it's Asian food because of their logo's oriental font. I've been eyeing it for a couple of days and when I had the time to drop by, I thought of finally trying Wild Rice. The guy over the counter recommended Beef Teriyaki at Php 69.00. Their rate is affordable and the food itself is quite tasty too.

I'm loving the spice of this!

French Romantic Movies

There's something about French love story films. A concoction of intense romance, mystery, charm, blitheness, incredibility and at times a hint of tragedy. These movies are injected with riveting twists that they leave an impression that's hard to forget. You would want to tell a friend to watch them so you'll have someone to relate to; you can't just keep it to yourself. Suddenly you find yourself yearning to watch more French movies may it be in different genres.

Watch these for a start:

Jeux d'enfants (Love Me If You Dare)

A childhood daring game between Sophie and Julien extends to their adult years where it leads them to fulfilling their dream of eternal love.

L'appartement (The Apartment)

Max's obsession with his lost love Lisa somehow becomes a labyrinth that's headed to a tragic conclusion.

Un long dimanche de fiancailles (A Very Long Engagement)

Mathilde remains hopeful that her fiance Manech is still alive after being condemned to death due to self-mutilation to escape service in the war. In search for the truth, she discovers interesting stories of the different men who were to face the same fate with her lover.

What makes these movies interesting is probably due to the fact that it's French-- the language, lifestyle, setting. I don't really know, I can't quite explain it myself. Maybe it's just the French way; maybe... C'est la vie!

Books

I can't imagine a world without books (at least I refuse to despite having read Fahrenheit 451). There has been fear of printed media's extinction with the birth of tablets. But no... they can't get rid of books. In fact, I read somewhere there's a rise of bookstore openings in some regions of Europe. That's right, more readers prefer the real thing. Up to now I still can't appreciate reading a book through a screen. I tackled this e-book vs. real book topic before in A Bookworm's Thought. There's a certain gratification in hearing the crisp of the page when I advance to the next page and in breathing in the familiar vanillin scent. For me, convenience of e-books cannot match the pleasure an actual one brings. And electronic versions can't fill up a bookshelf-- a bibliophile like me don't want that. *Wink*
